Big Green Egg vs. Kamado Joe Classic III ( best ceramic cooker?)

Here is where we are at. Big Green EGG- This grill just seems a little long in the tooth to me. Its funny that only AFTER Kamado Joe came out with cool features …

  • If you are selling these in your store and you are doing a comparison it a good idea to actually know what you are talking about. It just seems like you don’t know what you are talking about and that’s a shame.

  • If not for Kamado, Green Egg wouldn't have improved anything. That makes the choice easy for me.

  • Your supporting a company who gets its parts from China instead of a company that is completely North America based, good form.

  • What do you think about Vision Grill’s Kamado? Kamado Joe’s pricey and I saw Home Depot having a Kamado grill which is Vision Grill and so much more affordable compared to Kamado Joe. Would love to hear your expert opinion about this.

  • Thanks for the video.
I've had a large egg for over 15 years and it has held up pretty well. I had a damaged fire ring a few years ago and was able to replace it, for free, through a local authorized dealer without too much hassle.
I'm looking to increase capacity. I'll probably start with one of the expander kits. I'll consider a KJ if I purchase a second one.
Replacing the BGE gasket isn't fun, but I imagine the KJ isn't too different.

  • Quick question man. Saw some of your vids while at work today and loved em. I did hit that subscribe button 😉 my question is, what’s your thoughts on the Akorn Kamado Grill from Chargriller? I was initially on the fence between a Weber and a kamado mainly cuz of the fact that the slow n sear accessories are all made more so for Weber kettles but have since decided to jump in the kamado pool. The only thing is the $$$. Kamado grills are definitely more expensive and I’ve seen multiple reviews match up the akorn well with the egg and KJ while at a quarter of the price and pretty much indestructible. Would love to hear your thoughts man. Cheers

  • Definetly KJ is way to go. Did myself a review of two local kamado brands. Had loads insults and threats from fans of the brand that lost the test.

  • Life time warranty makes a difference because I have a big green egg and I had to replace the dome, fire ring and fire box! I’ve had it for ten years and it cost me nothing 💪 Worth the money and I cook on it at least once a week 🤪

  • Kamado Joe is just anther Chinese rip off of some one else's idea. If you like supporting a county that puts the Uighurs people in Concentration camps, than great, buy this cheap Big Green Egg knock off. At least Big Green is made in North America (Mexico) and the Primo kamado is made in the USA

  • I’m done with Kamado joe and their less than reliable parts especially the hinge. I just recently bought a green egg.

  • The ceramic on the BGE is of a much higher quality…check out this video and wait until the end where Primo “melts” the competition! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mxjh43Pyr0s

  • Well ofcourse the egg is cheaper it doesnt come with half the stuff! Joe is much better thought out reasonable, just placed ordered for a classic 3! The hinge being able to stop wherever, no worries of slams, the cap is rain proof, the egg is not, the accesories standard, better cart, standard metal shelves, better oven grade liner… how could you buy an egg.!!

  • i've owned a large BGE since 2011….over the years, i've modified/added to my interior options just as a natural evolution for my style of cooking into something very similar to the layout contained in the KJ….this was even before I knew what KJ offered (i hadn't seriously looked at them before 2 years ago)….for me, it just made sense to make certain changes to the layout of the BGE for added flexibility….so I give KJ credit that they included accessories that do just that…will all my add-ons and changes, i'm sure i'm up to the price of a KJ3…..i've been completely satisfied with the quality and durability of my BGE, but have to admit that if it ever broke/cracked, I wouldn't hesitate to replace with a KJ…either option, the flow of how i cook on a kamado would not change…the KJ3 seems like a solid option…..good review

  • You put the egg together incorrectly and then bashed it for your own mistakes…you then proceeded to call parts by the wrong name the entire video. This video has absolutely zero credibility. If you put the band and hinge on correctly it won’t sound like that. But I suppose since you didn’t even put the casters on the nest correctly I shouldn’t expect you to be able to put a hinge on correctly. I feel bad for people that don’t have a better option to buy these grills. These two schmucks know nothing as far as I’m concerned.

  • The ceramics are kiln fired at different temps. But just like the egg is slightly higher the primo is higher than the egg. IMO this is like having a tire on Toyota Prius rated for 200mph… if you can’t reach the range what does this even mean? Plus from a design perspective the firebox on the Joe allows expansion without cracking. I have cracked several BGE fire boxes and fire rings so in my experience this “better” ceramic argument is null and void. All leading manufacturers offer lifetime warranty on the ceramic anyways

  • Hahaha I spoke too soon, missed the shout out. Much love brother… and it’s the Kontrol tower top 😂

Smoking Dad BBQ 06/04/2021 18:16 Antworten
  • Add a cart, side shelves, egg spander and charcoal basket and the egg is not cheaper. Yes it starts for less money but it can’t cook indirect as shipped in basic form

  • My comment at 9:60 the BGE feels a little more dated. They are the original and made a little closer to home, but a lot to be desired. There’s no rotisserie, no pizza oven attachment, harder to clean ash out.. that gasket at the lid could really use an update too.

  • I am considering both but leaning toward the BGE for a few reasons. I notice all of the positive reviews have links to purchase the KJ. BGE is missing out on the internet purchases but I have to believe anyone making money from their review is going to give it to the KJ. I prefer the cast iron to the painted aluminum control tower. Have seen several complaints of issues with Control Tower. Since mine will be on a wooden deck the lower screen is very important to me which the KJ does not have. I don't like the metal fire ring that will warp in the KJ. With the trade war with China I believe getting parts for the KJ will be more difficult especially in a warranty situation. I prefer the use of gravity to keep the BGE sealed vs the latch needed for the KJ though I understand it makes opening the KJ easier. I actually prefer BGEs Eggspander to the KJ DaC system. It seems less fiddly. I understand how attractive it is to buy the KJ considering all that comes with the package though I have no issue picking the individual parts from BGE. There is also no question that KJ is dominating in the evolution of the Kamado grill but I am not convinced that they are vetting every change before putting it on the market. These are just my thoughts.

  • The prices are closer to the same once you add accessories to the BGE. I have a BGE personally and I think it’s simply personal preference. They’re both great products

    PSD Leach 06/04/2021 18:16 Antworten
  • The Kamado Joe Control Tower is rain proof, the Big Green Egg with the new top vent is not since you must have the top slider open to cook. When you're not cooking and the slider is closed it then becomes rain proof. They have an accessory that mounts on the back of the new top vent that will shield it from the rain, at an additional cost of course. What does it take to put a qualty gasket on the lid. You're lucky to 1 year out of their cheap felt gasket. Everything from Big Green Egg is ala cart and when you add up the accesories you need such as the cart, the side shelves, the plate setter, their new rack system it's more expensive than the Classic II but not the new Classic III. Big Green Egg's new spring system is better than what they had but if the handle slips out of you hand when lowering the lid it can do some serious damage to the lid or your hand. WAKE UP BIG GREEN EGG!!

  • Nice comparison! Got my KJ Classic 3 2 months ago and i absolutely love it. Great accessories that come with it. Nice to see your explanation about the white smoke during the start of the cook. Really had to learn to be patient and wait for the fire to be burning okay and no smoke was coming from it.

  • I guess my ocd is kicking in. But The Kamado Joe is is off center on the cart. It needs turned to the left some. KJ FTW!

  • My KJ3 comes today! Your videos, along with Smoking Dad BBQ's videos helped me decide on that one. Thanks!
